A family dispute has led to the killing of a wife in Ukhia’s Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar. The police have arrested the husband of the murderer on charges of involvement in the incident.
The incident took place at 7:30 pm on Wednesday in the D-12 block of the Kutupalong 2-West Rohingya camp in Ukhia upazila, said Ukhia Police Station OC Muhammad Arif Hossain.
The deceased, Ayesha Khatun (25), is the wife of Syed Alam of the same area.
The arrested Syed Alam (27) is the son of Jamal Hossain of the same area and the husband of the deceased.
Quoting locals, Arif Hossain said, “Syed Alam, a resident of D-12 block of the Kutupalong 2 Rohingya camp in Ukhia, and his wife Ayesha Khatun had been in a dispute over various issues for a long time. An argument broke out between the husband and wife on Wednesday evening as well. At one point, Syed Alam slaughtered Ayesha with a sharp weapon and fled, leaving her behind.’
Later, after receiving information from locals, a team of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) visited the scene. At that time, the slaughtered body was recovered on the floor of the house.
The OC said, ‘The killer husband had been absconding since the incident. Later, around 10 pm, APBN police conducted a raid and arrested Syed Alam.’
The body of the deceased has been recovered and sent to the Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Arif Hossain.
