US President Donald Trump has blocked an Israeli plan to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, US media outlet CBS has claimed, citing three sources.
The media outlet reported that after Israel attacked Iran on Friday, Trump told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a discussion that the plan to assassinate Khamenei was “not a good idea.”
However, Trump has not commented on the matter publicly. Reuters reported that Trump “vetoed” the plan to assassinate Khamenei.
However, Netanyahu did not directly confirm or deny the truth of the Reuters report in an interview with Fox News.
He said, “There are many false reports about this kind of dialogue, conversations that never actually happened, I don’t want to talk about those things.” He said, “But I can say one thing, we will do what we need to do. We will do what is necessary and I think the United States knows what is best for them – I will not say anything more about that.”
