Tulip Siddique questioned in the UK

Tulip Siddique, the daughter of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and a minister in the UK government led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, has been questioned by cabinet officials in connection with the ongoing investigation into corruption in a Bangladesh power project, the UK newspaper The Sunday Times reported on Sunday (December 22) night.

The British media outlet says that the Cabinet Office’s Justice and Ethics team has questioned Tulip Siddique, a minister in Britain’s ruling Labour cabinet, on charges of helping her family embezzle nearly £4 billion from a nuclear power project in Bangladesh.

Tulip Siddique is a member of Britain’s ruling Labour cabinet, serving as Economic Secretary to the Treasury and City Minister. Her job is to tackle corruption within the UK’s financial markets.

However, Tulip Siddique is accused of helping her aunt and recently ousted former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina in a corrupt deal with Russia for a power plant.

Tulip Siddique was questioned last Thursday. However, the news came to light on Sunday. According to the allegations, Sheikh Hasina’s family and her ministers diverted £3.9 billion (3.9 billion) from the Rooppur project.

The Sunday Times reported on Sunday that Tulip Siddique is a friend of current UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and represents the constituency of Hampstead and Highgate.

The newspaper said that after the allegations of her involvement in corruption came to light, Tulip Siddique agreed to attend a meeting with a representative of the Cabinet Office’s Justice and Ethics Team (PET). Last Thursday, the PET official visited Tulip Siddique’s office. Later, Tulip responded to the official’s allegations of her involvement in corruption in the 10 billion pound Rooppur project.
