No one wants corruption to stop: Energy Advisor

None of the politicians and bureaucrats in this country want corruption to stop, claimed Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, advisor to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources of the interim government. He made this claim while speaking as the chief guest at the Bangladesh Economic Association’s budget seminar at the CIRDAP auditorium in the capital on Saturday.

Fauzul Kabir Khan said, waste, corruption and inefficiency are the main obstacles to the economic development of Bangladesh. A power plant has been built six kilometers away from the water source for the convenience of only one minister. Roads have been built unnecessarily, and state money has been wasted due to mismanagement.

Regarding the interim government’s position on this issue, he said, “We want to leave an example that will be a positive example for the future, without appointing relatives or providing business facilities.”

Regarding the power sector, the energy advisor said, as the country’s own gas reserves are decreasing, dependence on imported LNG is increasing. The government is having to pay a large amount of subsidy for this. To overcome this situation, initiatives have been taken to install solar power in all government buildings. The generated electricity can be connected to the national grid.

He said that there is an opportunity to generate at least 2,000 megawatts of electricity from the private sector by installing solar panels on the roof.

The seminar was presided over by Professor Dr. Mahbub Ullah, convener of the Bangladesh Economic Association. Many prominent economists of the country participated in it.
