NCP joint convener Dr. Tasnuva Jabin has been accused of spreading extremely ugly, sexually harassing and false propaganda by some online platforms and fascist party leaders and activists, the party has claimed.
Claiming that this is not an isolated incident, the NCP said that similar derogatory campaigns have been launched targeting NCP leaders on various occasions before. Such ugly campaigns and propaganda are not only an expression of insult and oppression towards women, but also a denial of their political authority and capabilities. A planned attempt to narrow their political space.
A message signed by NCP joint convener (office) Saleh Uddin Sifat on Thursday (June 19) morning condemned and protested.
The message said that after a long and a half century of disappearances, murders, rapes and fascist misrule, women have regained their authority in the political arena of Bangladesh through the July Uprising. Therefore, any kind of humiliating and regressive behavior towards them denies the basic aspirations and ideals of the July Uprising. We are observing with great concern that even some leaders and activists of anti-fascist political parties have directly or indirectly participated in this sexual harassment campaign.
The NCP said that many online media and media personalities have also shown irresponsibility and unprofessionalism in this regard. A mainstream daily newspaper also published suggestive photo cards involving Tasnuva Zabin. Which has made her more vulnerable in the public sphere and has provoked sexually harassing comments against her.
It said that in the post-mass uprising period, the National Citizen Party has been playing a leading role in increasing women’s participation in the political arena. As a result, supporters of the old political arrangement are continuing to try to prevent greater participation of women in the leadership of the NCP.
The message further said that the NCP strongly condemns and protests against such campaigns of oppression and sexual harassment against women. If such campaigns continue, the NCP will take legal action against all online and offline women abusers and their collaborators in the future.
