Mustard cultivation increases in Amtali, potential for bumper yield

Mustard has been cultivated in a vast area of ​​Amtoli Upazila of Barguna. All around are only the yellow mustard flowers that are pleasing to the eye, spreading a sweet fragrance. This year, mustard has been cultivated on 150 hectares of land in Amtoli Upazila. Seeing the growing plants and flowers, farmers are dreaming of a bumper mustard harvest.

According to the Amtali Upazila Agriculture Office, the target for mustard cultivation in the upazila this year was set at 150 hectares. On the advice of the Upazila Agriculture Office, farmers cultivated Bina Sarisha-9 on that fallow land. Apart from this, farmers cultivated three high-yielding varieties Bina-4, Bari Sarisha-14 and Bari Sarisha-15 in large quantities.

Farmers cultivate high-yielding mustard in early November, and the mustard harvest comes within 100 days. With the increase in oil prices, farmers are turning to mustard cultivation to obtain nutritious oil, said the Upazila Agriculture Office.

Farmer Md. Shahjahan Mia of Chalitabunia said, “I have cultivated the seeds given by the Amtali Upazila Agriculture Office and the advice of them.”

Shaon Hawlader and Jamal Mia of Gulishakhali village said, “This year, we have cultivated mustard on fallow land. The yield has been good. I hope that we will be able to make a good profit by fulfilling the oil needs of the family.”

Amtali Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Isa said, “Farmers have cultivated Bina Sarisha-9, Bari Sarisha-14 and Bari Sarisha-15 on 150 hectares of land in Amtali Upazila. The yield has also been good.”
