After being closed for 10 consecutive days, import and export activities between the two countries have resumed through Benapole Port from this morning.
With the start of import and export activities this Sunday, the entire port area has returned to activity.
Due to the long holiday, there has been a goods jam at the port. 4,000 port handling workers have joined work. Customs and port officials are struggling to clear and release goods.
Due to the government holiday on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha, import and export activities were closed for 10 consecutive days from June 5 to June 14.
Mamun Kabir Tarafdar, Deputy Director of Benapole Port, confirmed the resumption of import and export.
Imdadul Haque Lata, General Secretary of Benapole C&F Agents Association, said that work has returned to Benapole Port as import and export operations resumed this morning. Port, customs officials, employees and port workers, along with traders related to trade, are busy unloading goods. Due to the long holiday, goods were jammed at the port. Now that goods are being unloaded, the goods jam will start decreasing.
Benapole Checkpost Immigration Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Elias Hossain said that despite the long Eid holiday, the travel of passengers holding passports from the two countries was normal like other days. However, although thousands of passengers went to India during the Eid holidays in previous years, there is no such pressure on passengers this year.
Benapole Port Deputy Director Mamun Kabir Tarafdar said that import-export activities have resumed through this port from Sunday morning. Field-level officials have been instructed to work quickly to resolve traffic jams and goods jams.
