Housewife murdered by slitting throat in Jessore

Police have recovered the slit body of a housewife named Swaroopjan alias Sathi (32) in Manirampur, Jessore. The deceased Swaroopjan alias Sathi (32) was the younger wife of Abdur Rashid Mintu Sardar, the son of the chatal owner. She worked as a laborer in the chatal.

Police said that Mintu Sardar, his elder wife, son and daughter-in-law all fled after the incident.

Sathi’s relatives and locals alleged that Mintu Sardar killed Sathi along with his elder wife and son after not receiving one lakh taka as dowry.

Sathi’s mother Aleya Begum said, “Four months ago, I sold the land and gave four lakh taka to Mintu. Then Mintu demanded another one lakh taka. When I did not give the money, he slit my daughter’s throat and killed her. Four years ago, Mintu took Sathi away on the pretext of a job in the chatal. Later, after raping her, he took her to the Qazi’s office and married her. Mintu often beat up Sathi.

When Sathi’s body was recovered around 1 pm, angry locals vandalized and looted Mintu’s house.

Locals said that Mintu Sardar was once involved in illegal arms trade. He was caught by law enforcement and spent 10-11 years in prison. After completing his sentence, he got out and married Sathi.

In this regard, Manirampur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Noor Mohammad Gazi said, “Housewife Sathi was killed by slitting her throat. Her body was lying on the floor of the house. Efforts are underway to uncover the reason for the murder and arrest those involved.”
