Former prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, Turin Afroz, has been arrested by Dhaka’s Uttara Paschim Thana police.
Turin is accused in several murder cases related to the anti-discrimination movement. A raid was conducted at his house at night based on intelligence information. He will be produced in court today, Tuesday.
DMP spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman said in a short message that Turin Afroz has been arrested by the Uttara Paschim Thana police. There is a case of attempted murder of a student against him in that police station. The student is still undergoing treatment after being shot. Besides, there are several cases against him in Nilphamari.
Turin was appointed as the prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal by the government in February 2013. He handled cases against Jamaat leaders Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid and Ghulam Azam. He was dismissed from the post of prosecutor in 2019 on charges of professional misconduct and breach of discipline.
