The court has banned former Bhola-2 MP Ali Azam Mukul, his wife Jahanara Yasmin, son Raihan Abid Ami and daughter Amena Azam Arshi from leaving the country due to corruption allegations. At the same time, the court has ordered a ban on the departure of former Prime Minister’s Office Principal Secretary and former Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Najibur Rahman, his wife Nazma Rahman, two sons Fuad N.A. Rahman and Farabi N.A. Rahman, who are in prison due to corruption allegations.
The investigating officer in Ali Azam Mukul’s case, Assistant Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Pias Pal, applied for a ban on their departure.
The application said that an investigation is underway against Ali Azam Mukul and others in the wake of allegations of illegal acquisition of wealth worth thousands of crores of taka, various irregularities and corruption. During the investigation, reliable sources said that those involved in the allegations may have fled the country and fled abroad. It is absolutely necessary to ban them from traveling abroad for the sake of a fair investigation of the allegations.
ACC Deputy Director Md. Khairul Haque, the investigating officer in Nojibur Rahman’s case, applied for a ban on their departure from the country.
The application states that an investigation is underway against Nojibur Rahman for allegations of amassing wealth worth crores of taka through bribery, corruption, and transfer trading. During the investigation, reliable sources learned that Nojibur Rahman and his family members are trying to flee the country. There is a fear that if they flee abroad, the investigation work will be disrupted. It is absolutely necessary to impose a ban on their foreign travel for the sake of a fair investigation of the allegations.
A team of DB police arrested Nojibur Rahman from Gulshan on the night of October 6. He was later taken on remand. He is currently in jail.
