This time, the court has sentenced Mohammad Russell, the managing director (MD) of e-commerce company Evaly, and his wife, chairman Shamima Nasrin, to three years of rigorous imprisonment. In addition, they have been fined Tk 5,000 each, and an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment in default.
Plaintiff’s lawyer Sakibul Islam confirmed the matter. He said that the accused are absconding. The court has issued an arrest warrant along with a sentence warrant against them.
According to the case, Evaly sells various products through various media through eye-catching advertisements. Attracted by this, Mujahid Hasan Fahim ordered a Yamaha R15 bike from their company on February 20, 2021. He paid the price. However, the authorities failed to deliver the bike within 45 days. Later, he contacted the Dhanmondi office. The authorities issued a check of Tk 5 lakh. However, as there was not enough money in the bank account, he requested not to deposit the check in the bank on the specified date. Believing the accused, he did not deposit the check in the bank. Later, the plaintiff kept demanding the money. However, they did not return any money to him. After this, legal notices were sent to him but nothing worked.
In this incident, Mujahid Hasan Fahim filed a case against Russell and Shamima in the court in January 2024.
