A clash occurred between students of the Khulna divisional branch of the March for Unity, an anti-discrimination student movement, and transport workers in Mollahat, Bagerhat.
On Tuesday (December 31) at 11:40 am, 25 buses carrying students left Khulna city for Dhaka. On the way, when the convoy reached Chanderhat area of Mollahat, Imad Paribahan overtook their vehicle. This forced the students’ vehicles to pull over to the side of the road.
When the vehicles carrying the students reached Madrasaghat area, some boys including local Kalu Faraji, Hasan Faraji, Hadi Faraji, Nanna Faraji and others beat them up.
At this time, thousands of students of the anti-discrimination student movement got involved in the clash with sticks. At one point, they vandalized local shops, set two motorcycles on fire and attacked several houses adjacent to Madrasaghat. After receiving news of the clash, the army and police reached the scene and were able to bring the situation under control after two long hours.
In this regard, Zahurul Tanvir, coordinator of the anti-discrimination movement in Khulna, said, “Our convoy was peacefully going from Khulna to Dhaka. On the way, terrorists attacked us. Many were injured in the attack. He said that the fascist Awami League supporters carried out this attack.
Another coordinator, Minhajul Abedin Sampad, said, “This attack was planned. However, no obstacle can divert us from our goal. The blood of our brothers has been shed. This must be tried very quickly, those involved must be brought under the law and exemplary punishment must be ensured.” Otherwise, he warned that the students will find out those involved through the movement.
Kalu Farazi, director of Imad Counter, said, “When I heard the complaint of Imad Paribahan and asked the students about the matter, they attacked me. The injured have been admitted to Khulna and Fakirhat Health Complexes. The injured students have left for Dhaka after receiving primary treatment. Currently, the environment in the area is completely normal with the presence of the army and police.
