Joint forces have arrested a person named Md. Shahjahan (49) with 85 sacks of government rice in Nakla, Sherpur. He was arrested from Darbarchar village of Char Ashtadhar Union on Thursday night.
The arrested Shahjahan is a resident of Charbasanti Purbapara village of Char Ashtadhar Union. He is the general secretary of Char Ashtadhar Union branch of BNP.
It is learned that based on secret information, the joint forces conducted a raid on the storeroom of Charbasanti Nurul Islam Market in Char Ashtadhar Union and the abandoned building of the Department of Agriculture next to the house of Fazlu Member of Darbarchar village. The raid was led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Sheikh Taki Tajwar.
During the raid, a total of 2,550 kg of government rice in 85 sacks, including 41 sacks from the storeroom of Nurul Islam’s market and 44 sacks from the abandoned pucca building of the Department of Agriculture, were recovered.
During the operation, BNP leader Shahjahan was arrested on charges of involvement in the incident. Shahjahan’s younger brother Nurul Islam fled after learning about the matter.
In this regard, Nakla Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Habibur Rahman said, Md. Shahjahan, his younger brother Md. Nurul Islam and 6-7 others have been registered as suspects in the case of recovering government rice at Nakla Police Station. Accused Shahjahan was handed over to the court on Friday afternoon.
