An aunt and niece were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG-powered autorickshaw in Shibbari area of Gazipur. Three passengers, including the autorickshaw driver, were injured in the incident.
The accident occurred around 10 am on Monday (March 31). An angry crowd seized the bus and set it on fire, causing it to burn down instantly. The fire service later arrived and extinguished the fire.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Riaz Uddin said that a CNG bus was heading towards Shibbari from Gazipur Chowrasta at around 10 am. When the CNG bus reached Shibbari intersection, it collided with a speeding bus coming from the opposite direction. As a result, the passenger in the CNG, child Tabassum (5) and her aunt died on the spot.
He also said that locals rescued the CNG driver and passengers and took them to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital. The angry crowd immediately seized the bus and set it on fire. Upon receiving the information, a fire service team reached the spot and doused the fire in the bus. He also said that the deceased have been kept at the Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College Hospital morgue.
