A young man named Salman Kabir went to Sirajdikhan police station in Munshiganj to file a general diary (GD) for losing his passport. He alleged that he had to pay the equivalent of three packs of cigarettes (1,200 taka) to file the GD.
The victim, Salman Kabir, said, “I went to the police station on Saturday evening to file a general diary for losing my passport. Then ASI Mahfuzur Rahman wanted to know how I lost it. I said, ‘I lost my passport while coming by bus from Paltan, Dhaka’. He said, ‘Then go to Paltan, it won’t happen here’.”
The victim further said, “I requested him to file the GD. At that time, he said, ‘Go to the shop and buy three packs of Benson cigarettes. Or else, take the GD with the money for three packs of Benson’. Later, I bought three packs of cigarettes for 1,200 taka from a shop next to the police station.”
When asked about the allegations, ASI Mahfuzur Rahman avoided talking. Later, when contacted on WhatsApp, he asked the reporter to go and meet him at the police station.
When asked about this, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Sirajdikhan Circle) ANM Imran Khan told the media outlet Ajker, “There is no charge for doing any work at the police station. I am on leave, otherwise I would have taken action against him.”
