Allegations of attack on Jamaat leader and activist in Kachua

Six Jamaat workers were injured in an attack by Sunni Jamaat members at the ward Jamaat’s Eid reunion program in Kachua, Chandpur. Preparations are underway to file a case against those involved in the incident with Kachua Police Station.

Kachua Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Azizul Islam confirmed this information at 9:30 pm on Wednesday.

Locals said that the Eid reunion program was organized by Ward No. 6 Jamaat of Gohat Uttar Union of the upazila at 8 am that day. The program was organized at the school with the permission of the headmaster of the local Naula Government Primary School. Muhaddis Abu Nasr Ashrafi, Jamaat’s nominated candidate for Chandpur-1 (Kachua) constituency, delivered the speech as the chief guest.

Meanwhile, Sunni Jamaat leaders and activists under the banner of the library named ‘Ala Hazrat’ sought permission for another Eid reunion at the same school at 11 am. The headmaster did not allow them to hold the program. But before the Jamaat program ended, around 11 am, they threw bricks and stones at the Jamaat program and entered the school and attacked the Jamaat workers. In this, 6 Jamaat workers were injured.

The injured in the attack were Jamaat workers Md. Shahparan, Swapan Mia, Md. Arif, Md. Fahad, Md. Emran and Md. Mridul. The injured were treated at the Kachua Upazila Health Complex.

Kachua Upazila Jamaat Ameer Advocate Abu Taher Mesbah said, ‘The attack was carried out by local Sunni Jamaat people led by Abdul Quader, the president of the Ala Hazrat library. A case will be filed in the police station in this incident.’

In this regard, Kachua Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Azizul Islam said that the people of the Ala Hazrat library attacked the ward Jamaat’s Eid reunion program. However, the Jamaat workers did not prevent their attack. We have learned that they are friends of the Awami League. A case will be filed against 20-25 people at the police station on behalf of the injured in this incident.
