Additional police deployment, magistrates to be present to prevent noise pollution

To ensure overall security in the capital, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will deploy an additional 3,000 police officers for the 31st and English New Year celebrations. For the first time, a magistrate from the Department of Environment will be on duty to prevent noise pollution.

He gave this information at a briefing on the security measures taken by the DMP on the occasion of the 31st Night and the English New Year at the DMP Media Center on Tuesday afternoon.

He said, police are regularly deployed to ensure security in Dhaka city. There are at least two patrol teams from each outpost at night, and four-five teams from the police station. This is our regular deployment. Today alone, 3,000 additional police have been deployed in addition to this on the occasion of the 31st Night.

The DMP Commissioner said, we think this is enough. We have targeted some points. Especially, more police will be deployed in the Dhaka University, Gulshan, 300 feet, Uttara Diabari areas. Along with our police force, there will be magistrates from the Department of Environment. If they run a mobile court anywhere, our force will support them.

In different countries of the world, the English New Year is welcomed by setting off fireworks, why are there so many environmental problems in Bangladesh? In response to such a question, he said, firstly, the Thirty-first is celebrated in different countries of the world. In most countries, it is the New Year, not in our country. Secondly, in other countries, the English New Year celebration is organized at a specific place, fireworks are not set off throughout the city. We also thought of organizing the Thirty-first and English New Year celebration at a specific place in Dhaka this year. But this year we could not do it. Hopefully, we will organize it next year.

In response to the question whether the morale of the police has returned, he said, we have overcome the lack of morale of the police. We do not have any problems yet. We have come back from the coma we went into. The morale of our officers is much better now.

When asked if there is any threat on the occasion of the Thirty-first night, he said, there is no threat.

Earlier, in the briefing, he said, “DMP has conducted a drive in the capital for the past week to prevent fireworks, firecrackers, cluster bombs, and rocket bombs from being set off on the 31st night and seized 127 kg of fireworks, firecrackers, cluster bombs, and rocket bombs.” Five cases have been filed in this regard and five people have been arrested.

Addressing the city residents, the DMP Commissioner said, “It is not possible to stop noise pollution with just the police or the Department of Environment. Every citizen has a responsibility for this. We seek everyone’s cooperation.”

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Tapan Kumar Biswas, Additional Commissioner (Admin) Faruk Ahmed, and Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Khondaker Nazmul Hasan were present at the time.
