The police have applied for a 10-day remand of actor Siddiqur Rahman Siddique in the case of attempted murder of van driver Jabbar Ali Howlader during the anti-discrimination student movement. Today, Wednesday, SI Abdus Salam, the investigation officer of the capital’s Gulshan Police Station, presented him to the court. The remand hearing will be held at the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in some time.
Earlier, some youths detained Siddique and beat him up while he was passing through Bailey Road on Tuesday afternoon. Later, he was handed over to the Ramna Police Station. The actor was then handed over to the Gulshan Police Station from the Ramna Police Station.
The allegations in the case for which the remand application was filed reveal that on July 19 last year, during the anti-discrimination movement, shots were fired at protesters in front of the Confidence Tower in Shahjadpur, Gulshan. Jabbar Ali Howlader was shot. Van driver Jabbar Ali Howlader filed a case with Gulshan Police Station against 109 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in this incident.
