At least 22 people were killed and 63 others injured in a suicide attack on a church in the Syrian capital Damascus, the BBC reported, citing the Syrian Ministry of Health.
The report said that gunmen opened fire at the Greek Orthodox Church in the Prophet Elias area of Damascus on Sunday morning. Then they detonated a suicide vest.
The Syrian government said the attackers may have been members of the Islamic State group. However, ISIS has not yet officially claimed responsibility.
The country’s volunteer rescue organization, the White Helmets, broadcast live video from the scene. Inside the church, blood-stained floors, broken benches and rubble were seen.
