Starlink gets approval to do business in Bangladesh

The Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) has approved Starlink, a satellite-based internet service provider and a partner of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, to do business in Bangladesh.

He said, “Starlink was approved on March 29 in light of the promise we made to them to operate within 90 days. It is mandatory for foreign companies to register with BIDA to do business in Bangladesh. That registration has also been given to Starlink.”

The BIDA executive chairman said that Starlink is scheduled to apply for the Non-Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) license required for operation today (Sunday). If the rules are followed, BIDA will approve their application. There will be no obstacle to their doing business in Bangladesh.

Starlink’s internet service will be used on a trial basis on April 9 at the Intercontinental Hotel in the capital, the venue of the Bangladesh Investment Conference. All participants present there will be able to use it. In addition, the conference will be broadcast live using Starlink’s internet.

Earlier, on February 13, there was a telephone conversation between Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. There, the possibility of launching Starlink’s satellite internet service for Bangladesh and future cooperation were discussed.

People in the technology sector say that if Starlink comes to Bangladesh, high-speed internet service will be available very easily in remote areas. As a result, the difference between villages and cities in terms of internet service will be eliminated. Young people will be able to do freelancing and internet-based work using high-speed internet right in the villages. Starlink can play a major role in quickly replacing communication after disasters.
