The Coast Guard has arrested six people while illegally smuggling 291 bags of urea fertilizer worth about 8 lakh taka and 9,072 pieces of Royal Tiger (energy drinks) in Myanmar’s Rakhine State. This information was confirmed by Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Harun-or-Rashid on Saturday (June 14) morning.
He said, “Based on a secret tip-off, a special operation was conducted by the Coast Guard Station Cox’s Bazar in the sea area adjacent to Nazirartek on Friday afternoon. During the operation, a suspicious engine-powered wooden boat was signaled to stop, and the boat, sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, tried to flee into the deep sea at high speed. The boat was apprehended after a chase that lasted for about an hour.
Later, during the search, 291 bags of urea fertilizer worth 781,410 taka and 9,072 packs of Royal Tiger (energy drinks) worth 18,590 taka were seized while illegally smuggling them to Myanmar’s Rakhine state by evading customs duties. All of them are residents of Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar.
Later, the seized fertilizer and energy drinks were sent to Cox’s Bazar Customs. He also said that the process of handing over the arrested smugglers and the boat used by them to Cox’s Bazar Model Police Station is under process.
Harun-or-Rashid said, “The Bangladesh Coast Guard has been patrolling 24 hours a day to maintain the law and order situation in the country. Such operations will continue by the Coast Guard in the future to prevent smuggling.
