Five people have been arrested in a special anti-drug operation by the army in Joypurhat, along with a huge quantity of drugs. The operation was conducted in Harijan Patti in the city’s Station Road area on Thursday (June 5) night based on a secret tip-off.
The arrested are Mithun Harijan (37), son of the deceased Bhadua Harijan of Biswaspara, Rail Colony, the city, Most Hasan (26), son of Jahidul of Battali area of Khetlal upazila, Rubel Hossain (30), son of Chan Mia of Dewanpara, Mithun Harijan’s wife Champa (37), and Mukti (26), wife of Shyamal of Shantinagar Fultali intersection.
According to army sources, 1 kg 700 grams of dried ganja, 20 liters of distilled liquor, various paraphernalia for consuming ganja and Tk 54,950 in cash were recovered during the operation in the city’s Rail Colony and Fultali areas. The arrested were handed over to Joypurhat police station after initial interrogation.
In this regard, Joypurhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nur Alam Siddique said, “A case has been filed against the arrested persons under the Narcotics Control Act and they have been sent to jail through the court.”
