Bangladesh won the toss and will bat against hosts Sri Lanka in the first of the two-match Test series. Enamul Haque Bijoy and Sadman Islam opened the innings in Galle on Tuesday morning. However, Bijoy returned to the dressing room as soon as 5 runs were added to the scoreboard. He had to return for a duck after playing 10 balls. Then two more batters returned before reaching fifty.
Enamul Haque Bijoy was playing quite cautiously at the beginning. The third ball of the fifth over bowled by Asitha Fernando was slightly outside the off-stump. While playing that ball of good length, he was caught by Kusal Mendis at slip.
Then Sadman Islam and Mominul Haque tried to handle the pressure. Both of them continued to play cautiously. However, Sadman Islam made a mistake. Sadman was caught by Dhananjaya de Silva while playing Tharindu Rathnayake’s ball. Before returning, 14 runs came from his bat.
Mominul Haque failed to repair the innings with captain Shanto in the third wicket partnership. The left-handed batsman was caught by Silver, who was in the slips while playing a ball outside off stump by Tharindu Rathnayake.
Mominul scored 29 runs from 33 balls before returning to the dressing room. As of writing this report, Bangladesh’s total is 48 for 3. Mushfiqur Rahim and Nazmul Hossain Shanto are in the wickets.
Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat in the first Test of the series against Sri Lanka. However, Mehedi Hasan Miraj, who was newly appointed ODI captain, is not in the Bangladesh XI for this match due to illness. Spinner Nayeem Hasan has come in his place.
