3 accused remanded for piracy of movie ‘Tandav’

The court has granted two-day remand to each of the three accused arrested in the ‘Tandav’ movie piracy case. Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain gave the order after a hearing on Wednesday.

The three accused who were remanded are YouTuber Tipu Sultan, online portal owner Sadi Saad alias Sagar, and hall operator Sajedul Islam.

The investigation officer of the case, Sub-Inspector (SI) of the Intelligence Department (DB) of the police, Rafiqul Islam, applied to the court to take them on a 7-day remand. After the hearing, the judge granted them two-day remands each.

Earlier, the Cyber ​​Division of the Intelligence Department arrested Tipu Sultan from Noakhali, Sadi Saad from Mymensingh, and Sajedul Islam from Savar. Shahriar Shakil, the producer of the movie ‘Tandav’, filed a case with Banani Police Station on charges of movie piracy.

The case alleges that on June 4, several individuals pirated the movie ‘Tandav’ and distributed it through various online media including YouTube, Telegram, and Facebook. This caused financial and creative losses to the producer. The case is being investigated by the Cyber ​​and Special Crime Unit of the DB.
