After serving various terms of imprisonment for illegal entry into India, 14 Bangladeshis returned home through the Akhaura-Agartala land port in Brahmanbaria.
They entered the country through the Akhaura international check post from Agartala in West Tripura at around 3 pm today, Thursday. Consular Assistant of the Bangladesh High Commission Office in Tripura in India Omar Sharif, Upazila Nirbahi Officer GM Rashedulai Islam, Immigration In-charge Mohammad Abdus Sattar, Deputy Manager BRAC Migration Saila Sharmin and senior officials of the two countries were present at the time.
The returnees said that they crossed the border to India through brokers at different times. Later, they were arrested by the law enforcement agencies of that country and served various terms of imprisonment. Later, they were kept in the Narsingar temporary detention center in West Tripura on the orders of the court.
Among the returnees are – Feni’s Md. Ismail Bhuiyan and Harun Majumdar, Narayanganj’s Mosha. Papia Akhter, Gopalganj’s Mosha. Liza Khanam, Narail’s Mosha. Liza Khatun, Chandpur’s Mosha. Asha Moni, Khulna’s Md. Mahfuzul Islam, Tahura Bibi and Ankhi Islam, Netrokona’s Sanjay Das and Swapan Das, Sunamganj’s Bipul Das, Jashu Das and Sushen Das.
Deputy Manager BRAC Migration Saila Sharmin said, ‘When the families of 14 people contacted us at different times to bring them back, we contacted the Bangladesh Embassy in Agartala through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs and they were brought back to the country today. Initially, our organization gave all the returnees 3 thousand taka and food. We will work for their full rehabilitation later.’
Omar Sharif, First Secretary of the Bangladesh High Commissioner in Tripura, said on this issue, ‘They crossed the border illegally and came to India for work after being tricked by brokers. Later, they were arrested by the country’s law enforcement agencies and served time in prison. Later, after receiving the information, we traced them and completed the legal process in both countries and sent them back home today.’
