Due to a problem with the land service server, the collection of land rent (land development tax) has been suspended in Harirampur, Manikganj for more than a month. At the same time, land registration and parcel services are also suspended. People in the area are unable to register their land due to the suspension of registration and rent. The government is losing revenue due to the server being shut down. It is said that due to the non-payment of rent and registration, document registration is not being done at the sub-registry office. This has reached an extreme level of public suffering. The people of this upazila are facing various crises due to the inability to buy and sell land.
The concerned people say that the online land service server has been down since November 26. As a result, land registration, rent collection and online land parcel services are down. This has caused extreme suffering to people. No one can say when this suffering will end.
Md. Sohan of Goalbag area of Gala union of the upazila said, due to server problems, we have not been able to pay our land rent for almost a month. Due to not being able to pay the rent, it is not possible to register the land. We are in a lot of trouble.
Mithu Molla of Alamdi area of the upazila said, we need to sell some land urgently. For this, we need to register. Due to server problems, we are not able to register, so we are not able to sell the land.
Prabir Majumdar, document writer of Harirampur Sub-Registry Office, said that land registration has decreased a lot due to the lack of document registration without updated rent receipts. Earlier, 30-45 documents were registered every week. There are now a maximum of 10-15 document registrations per week.
Upazila Sub-Registrar (with additional responsibility) Ashish Kumar Sarkar said that the number of document registrations is comparatively higher in December compared to other months. But the number of document registrations has decreased due to people not being able to pay land rent. This is because, in the case of document registration, there is a requirement for the updated land rent receipt.
Harirampur Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Shahriar Ashraf said that there is a temporary problem in the land service server due to software upgradation. The Land Ministry is working on the matter. This problem will be resolved very soon.
